Running twice yearly, these three-day residential courses are open to all LA Representatives.
They aim to provide participants with a solid grounding in the role they play within the workplace and more widely within the AEP. The course content is flexible to suit the needs and interests of the students, but will always cover the following: contracts of employment, including variations and termination; dispute resolution procedures and supporting and representing members individually; collective bargaining, both nationally and locally; recognition and the implications for 'time off' and facilities arrangements; the AEPs democratic decision-making structures and role LA Representatives can play within those; and health and safety issues, such as stress in the workplace.
Run as a joint venture between the GFTU and AEP, the courses are presented by one of the AEP's two Regional officers and a specialist trade union educator. Each student gains formal 'accreditation' to act on behalf of the AEP and its members as a trade union representative.
