To Become an Educational Psychologist

Pre 2006 –

• Good honours degree in psychology (or equivalent)
• Teaching Qualification
• Minimum of 2 years qualified teaching experience
• Masters degree in educational psychology (professional qualification)

After 2006

• Good honours degree in psychology (or equivalent)
• Minimum of 2 years experience working with children and young people
• Doctoral training in educational psychology (professional qualification)

From July 1st 2009

• Educational psychologists required to register with the Health Professions Council (HPC)
• Once qualified as an educational psychologist jobs can be available with local authorities (children’s services), voluntary organisations, groups of schools and within the independent sector within local authorities there are a range of models of service delivery, and opportunities for professional and career development.
