Legislation to ban smacking passed in Scotland

Smacking Ban Scotland

Scotland has become the first UK country to make it a criminal offence for parents to smack their children. The Children (Equal Protection from Assault) Bill was passed by 84 MSPs voting for it and only 29 against. The Bill was introduced by Scottish Greens MSP John Finnie who argued there was no such thing as a reasonable level of violence and that the Bill was not a critique of how parents bring up their children, rather it ensured that a child’s rights were safeguarded.
