Unexplained pupil exits from schools

The Education Policy Institute has published a report on unexplained pupil exists from schools which finds that around one in 10 pupils who reached year 11 in 2017 experienced an unexplained exit at some point during their time at secondary school. This represents an increase of just over 1% from 2014. Whilst the number of pupils experiencing two or more unexplained exits is relatively low, the report shows that this figure is higher in 2017 than it was in 2014 (1.2% of all pupils compared to 0.9% respectively). Furthermore, the research indicates that only 4.4% of all pupils who left school for an unknown reason returned to their original school by the spring term of year 11.
