JOB PURPOSE: The post holder will be expected to apply psychological knowledge and skills in order to promote the positive development of children, young people, families and organisations.  This will be achieved by assisting the service in meeting its priorities.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES:

  • To identify the needs of children and young people regarding development, learning and behaviour.
  • To provide advice on and implement evidence-based interventions for children and young people both as individuals and in groups.
  • To advise the local authority on appropriate provision or arrangements to meet the needs of individual children.
  • To contribute to training and professional development of professionals and parents.
  • To follow appropriate Code(s) of Ethics for behaviour and good professional practice
  • To assist the local authority in meeting its statutory duties towards children and young people with SEN, disabilities and other barriers to learning. 
  • To work in close partnership with a range of professional groups including Health and Social Services as well as voluntary bodies to develop high quality advice on promoting the emotional well- being and mental health for children and young people.
  • Participating in any training and development activities in order to maintain own professional development or to enhance competence within job role.
