ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL TUTOR (APT) to the DOCTORATE IN EDUCATIONAL & CHILD PSYCHOLOGY (Initial professional training programme for practitioner educational psychologists)

You will work as part of a small, committed team providing academic and professional support to trainee educational psychologists.

JOB DESCRIPTION
A specific job description will be negotiated with the tutor before commencement of duties. 

Duties will include: 

  • Planning and delivering some taught sessions for trainee educational psychologists; 
  • Academic and fieldwork supervision of trainee educational psychologists
  • Examination (marking) of trainees’ academic work and/or professional portfolios; 
  • D.Ed.Ch.Psychol. team meetings;   
  • A pro-rata allowance for contribution to the tutor’s continuing professional development will be available.

One of the available contracts will allocate:

  • Programme-wide responsibility for Early Years teaching, resourcing and coordination of the regional EP Early Years Interest Group.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential

  • Current registration with Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a practitioner educational psychologist   
  • Willingness to undertake an enhanced DBS check
  • Doctoral degree awarded (or equivalent)
  • Experience of the full range of educational psychology professional practice
  • A developed educational psychology specialism
  • Ability to critically evaluate research in relation to educational psychology practice 
  • Experience of teaching adult learners in an educational context 
  • Willingness to assume a pastoral role for adult learners 
  • High order communication skills
  • Ability and willingness to work collaboratively and co-operatively where possible 
  • Evidence of administrative accuracy, effective management of time and own well-being
  • The ability to act diplomatically and rationally in difficult situations, showing an ability to consider the perspectives of a variety of stakeholders
  • A thorough understanding of human diversity issues and the way that these may affect educational and vocational opportunities 
  • Willingness to keep up to date with developments in educational psychology practice and training 
  • Willingness to contribute constructively and critically to team functioning 

Desirable

  • Experience of educational psychology practice relating to the Early Years phase of education.
  • Ability to plan strategically for the integration and development of Early Years considerations to the research, academic work and professional practice of the D.Ed.Ch.Psychol.
  • Understanding of current issues in relation to Early Years education.
  • Experience of authoring/ co-authoring research publications for academic and/ or practitioner journals.

One or more fixed-term secondment contract(s) available at between 0.1-0.3fte from 1 September 2026 (or asap thereafter) until the 31 August 2028 (in the first instance).

Please note: that only secondment from employer, rather than direct employment, is possible at this time. Secondment contracts will cover salary remuneration and employer on-costs.

Remuneration: Soulbury Senior/Principal EP Scale B9-11 p.a. pro rata
