We are seeking qualified Educational Psychologists, or trainee EPs in years 2 or 3 of doctoral training, to join Wokingham Borough Council’s highly regarded Educational Psychology Service on a permanent full-time or part-time basis. We offer hybrid working with a combination of office-based work, school visits and remote working to support a positive work-life balance. This is an exciting time to join the service as we expand and develop our delivery model through the “Experts at Hand” approach.
Our Educational Psychology Service is well respected by schools and professionals across the local authority. We operate a link EP model, enabling Educational Psychologists to build strong, collaborative relationships with schools and settings while working at multiple levels, including individual casework, whole-school development and systemic work. Consultation is central to our practice, helping to build understanding, empower others and create sustainable change. Additional capacity for early intervention is supported through the use of locum EPs to complete a number of Education, Health and Care Needs Assessments (EHCNAs).
You will join a supportive and reflective team culture where wellbeing, innovation and professional development are prioritised. High-quality supervision, peer support and opportunities to develop specialist interests are integral to our service. EPs also contribute strategically to local authority priorities including Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH), Early Years, and neurodiversity. We also deliver a well-established training programme for schools and settings, including annual Nurture Assistant training.
Key responsibilities include statutory work linked to Education, Health and Care Needs Assessments, non-statutory consultation and intervention work, delivering training, ensuring the child’s voice is represented, maintaining secure records, and working collaboratively with families, schools and other professionals. EPs are encouraged to contribute to service development and lead in areas of specialist interest aligned with local priorities.
Candidates must hold a doctorate in Educational Psychology, an honours degree in Psychology recognised by the British Psychological Society, and HCPC eligibility. Applications are also welcomed from trainee EPs currently in years 2 or 3 of doctoral training.
