This advanced training equips practitioners with the skills to help parents create calmer, more connected family relationships. Rooted in Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP) and Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), the course offers a relational, trauma-informed approach. Participants will gain knowledge/experience of: The Parent–Child Game, Filial Therapy, Video Interaction Guidance (VIG) and methods for running psychoeducation groups for parents. They will also learn how to run parent–child dyadic sessions bringing about vital relational repair.

By attending, practitioners will learn to support parents to:

  • Actively relate to their child or teenager using PACE, mental state talk, relational and attachment play.
  • Use DDP interventions, such as speaking about/for the child.
  • Mentalize, attune, and empathise with their children across all developmental stages.
  • Transform stress-inducing patterns into stress-reducing connections.
  • Set boundaries with respect and empathy, not anger.
  • Recognise their own triggers, reflect rather than react, staying regulated under stress.
  • Develop trauma-reflective functioning proven to prevent intergenerational transfer of trauma.
  • Address child-on-parent violence (CPV) in ways that heal
