Audit Scotland has published a new report on Additional Support for Learning. The report raises concerns about the widening attainment gap in education, inconsistent data collection, and shortages in staff and resources affecting both pupils and education staff.

In February 2025, after careful consideration from all three Soulbury unions, the Officers' Side reluctantly accepted the 2024 pay offer. The unions put on record their huge disappointment at this outcome, which represents yet another real terms pay cut and another significant worsening of Soulbury pay relative to teachers. The AEP National Executive Committee noted their reluctance to accept and expresses its disappointment at the Employers Side ‘final’ offer, which does not address the real terms decrease in Educational Psychologists’ pay over several years.

The UK parliament's Public Accounts Committee has today released its report ‘Support for children and young people with special educational needs’ highlighting significant challenges in the current SEND system, describing it as at ‘crisis point’, and provided key recommendations for improvement.

The Department for Education (DfE) recommended the development of this Practice Placement Partnership Framework (PPPF) to provide guidelines to support trainee educational psychologist’ (trainee’s) practice experiences during their training and to support the quality assurance of placement provision.

Today, the AEP endorse an open letter to Secretary of State, Bridget Phillipson, drafted by a grass roots movement of educational psychologists, and other leading SEND groups, has been published. In it, the issues facing education and the ways in which the new government can work towards a solution are outlined.
