Throughout my time on the NEC, I have deeply valued the learning opportunities and the chance to be actively involved in key decision-making processes. Contributing to discussions at this level has allowed me to bring insights from both my training and my practice within a local service, which I believe has been both meaningful and impactful.
As a National Member, I regularly attend NEC meetings—virtually and in person when possible. I currently serve as Chair of the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Subcommittee, where I work closely with fellow NEC members and AEP staff to discuss and progress important issues related to equity and inclusion across the profession.
Another key part of my role has been supporting the planning of the annual AEP conference. This involves collaborating with the NEC and staff team to shape the conference programme—drawing on feedback from previous attendees and focusing on themes that are relevant to current challenges and developments within educational psychology.
Being part of the NEC has allowed me to contribute meaningfully to the profession and to the important work of the AEP. It has broadened my understanding of the issues facing educational psychologists, as well as the children, young people, and families we support. It has also been a great opportunity to connect with colleagues from across the membership and gain a richer understanding of the profession as a whole."
The NEC is elected by members annually (most positions elected on a 2 year basis). The committee consists of regional representatives, as well as trainee and newly qualified posts to ensure representation across the AEP membership.
