Pledge your support for the NEU's 'No Child Left Behind' Campaign

12/06/2021

The National Education Union launched their No Child Left Behind campaign, which is fighting to break down the barriers around equal access to education that child poverty presents. The campaign states that in the UK today, 31% of children, totaling 4.3 million, are trapped in poverty. The equivalent of 9 pupils in every class of 30.

The campaign is calling on the Government to leave no child behind, and asks that you write to your MP to encourage them to sign the pledge. The pledge reads:

As a member of Parliament, I pledge to do everything in my power so that no child is left behind in:

  • I call for the development of a cross-Government strategy to eradicate the poverty faced by the 4.3 million children currently growing up trapped in poverty.
  • I will use my vote and voice in Parliament to try to stop an expected 730,000 more children being plunged into poverty by 2024.

The campaign is also calling on educators, who know first-hand how poverty limits the life chances of children and affects their educational experience in school, to join the movement. The Association of Educational Psychologists have signed an AGM motion committed to end child poverty.
