Donna Wiggett elected General Secretary of the Association of Educational Psychologists

10/06/2025

Donna Wiggett has been elected General Secretary of the Association of Educational Psychologists (AEP). She will take up the role over the coming months.

Donna is a Senior Educational Psychologist in the Education Authority Northern Ireland and brings significant experience to the role. For the past four years she has served on the AEP’s National Executive Committee and has represented members locally and nationally.  She has also worked with higher education partners on the development of education and training for the profession and with trade union colleagues to negotiate on behalf of members.

Commenting on her election, Donna said: “It is a huge honour to be given the mandate to lead the AEP.  It is my conviction that psychology, applied with compassion and rigour, can change lives. The expectations placed upon educational psychologists are increasing, even as resources tighten. And yet, amidst these challenges, we are seeing renewed recognition of the vital role we play - in schools, in policy, and in the lives of children and young people.”

“I am only too aware of the challenges and opportunities that define our profession today, and I am excited to be taking on the role of General Secretary to lead us through them.”

As General Secretary, Donna will champion the profession across all four nations of the UK and advocate for children and young people to help secure the change needed to allow all learners to thrive.

AEP President, David Collingwood commented: “We are delighted to have someone of Donna’s calibre and experience stepping into the role of General Secretary. I know from working with Donna over the past four years that she has the expertise, passion and dedication to make a difference to EPs and to the lives of the children and young people we support every day.”

“Donna’s election comes at a pivotal moment for our profession, as EPs face mounting challenges to support children and young people within a special educational needs and disabilities system in crisis.”

“The voice of EPs has never been more needed and Donna’s leadership will ensure we work with our members to face into those challenges and make a positive difference.”
