Job Summary
In Jersey, we have a clear vision and unwavering commitment to create the conditions where every child and family feels supported to thrive. As we further develop our future approach to education, SEND and inclusion on the island, with a focus on partnership and improvement the role holder will have a pivotal role in shaping the services. Early intervention and inclusion will be central to the strategy with an opportunity to work in close collaboration with schools, multi-disciplinary professionals and stakeholders. As part of this vision, we are on a transformational journey to develop and grow our Psychology and Wellbeing Service to ensure that psychology is at the centre of what we do, to help improve outcomes for children and young people, creating brighter futures for families across the island.
The role
This is an opportunity to help deliver a quality, cost effective service which meets statutory requirements as underpinned by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), and the Division of Educational and Child Psychology within the British Psychological Society (BPS). The role is focused on key priorities, including early intervention and inclusion, parental confidence and improved outcomes for all children and young people particularly those with SEND to create brighter futures for all children and families.
The Jersey education framework and landscape is aligned to the UK but with fewer regulatory restrictions, providing an opportunity for Educational Psychologists to work more creatively and broadly beyond traditional approaches to assessment of individual children. This brings a significant opportunity for Educational Psychologists to be engaged in creative work across Children's Services and the wider community which will make a meaningful impact to children and families.
Inclusion and Early Intervention
The Psychology and Wellbeing Service in Jersey is part of the Central Education Team. The service provides psychological services and support to help children and young people overcome learning barriers in schools and other settings from ages 0 to 19. The service works with schools and other professionals to identify and address SEND, promote social inclusion, and offer training and support. One of the core focuses of the service is early intervention.
Island life
Living in the beautiful and accessible Island with a close-knit community has many advantages including having an impact on Islanders’ lives on a daily basis and working with a smaller population in community schools with enviable environments.
