Your chance to sit on the AEP National Executive Committee?

07/10/2025

Would you like to help to shape the AEP's work - and to make a real difference for the profession and the communities we serve?

Following the close of nominations in September 2025, we are pleased to announce elections to the National Executive Committee.

We are now seeking nominations from eligible members of the AEP to fill unelected positions on the NEC which will arise when the terms of office of some current members ends. We are also seeking nominations from members of Region 9 (Cymru / Wales) to stand for the existing vacancy of Regional Representative following the resignation of reps. Successful nominees will commence their terms of office on 1st December 2025.

This is a chance to engage with the work of the AEP and to use your skills to represent members like you. It's an incredibly rewarding experience, giving the opportunity to learn and develop skills, influence key professional policy and connect with colleagues across the UK nations.

You can find details of the remaining vacancies below:

Officers of the Association (elected nationally)

  • National Member (2 year term)
  • Trainee Member* (2 year term)
*An office reserved for a member currently undertaking training on a recognised Educational Psychology doctoral programme.

Regional Representatives:(to be elected by members of the designated Region**)

  • Region 2:   North West England (2 year term)
  • Region 9: Cymru / Wales* (2 year term - 1 year remaining)
*this is a by-election to complete a term of office until 30.11.2026
**details of each region can be found in the election notice)

You can find out more in the details tab below, and by reading the full election notice.  You will find links to the relevant nomination forms for each role on this page, but please send an email to vanessa@aep.org.uk if you have any issues accessing these.

We understand it can be a big decision (and a confusing process) and encourage anyone interested  in standing to reach out by email via aepelections@aep.org.uk or by contacting your regional rep to discuss the role.

Further details

Candidates for election to the office of Trainee Member must be in the Trainee category of membership and eligible for such at the time of this election. For the avoidance of doubt the ‘time of this election’ will be taken as the closing date for nominations published in this notice.

A member’s electoral Region is normally determined by place of work and not home address.  For self-employed members, ‘place of work’ is deemed to be the address for correspondence or other address previously notified to the AEP.  Details of all the AEP’s electoral Regions are shown in Section 5 of the Notice.

Candidates who are unsure whether their nomination will meet these requirements should seek advice from the Association Secretary as soon as possible and before submitting their nomination via aepelections@aep.org.uk

Only Full and Trainee members of the AEP can be elected to the NEC. Both Trainee and Regional Representative posts can be held by two members jointly. Members may stand for election to more than one office but can be elected to, and hold, only one office.

You must be eligible to stand for the relevant office on the closing date for nominations. Your nomination must be supported by two other eligible members of the AEP. They must be Full, Trainee or Assistant members at the closing date for nominations; for Regional Representative posts supporters must also be members of your Region.  A member may nominate only one candidate (or, where applicable, two standing jointly) for the same office.

Your completed nomination form(s) must be received before noon on 23rd October 2025.

You may submit nomination forms by email or by post using the details below. Please make sure that with you use the correct nomination form(s) for the position and that you include a completed Contact Details form, to enable the Scrutineer to confirm receipt.

In line with legal requirements, the AEP has appointed Civica to act as an independent scrutineer in receiving nominations.
Their address is: Civica, The Election Centre, 33 Clarendon Road, N8 0NW
Tel: 0208 8899 203 and email: nominations@cesvotes.com
